Hello everyone. WDWInfo.com reported yesterday that California Grill Restaurant at the Contemporary Resort looks like it may be going to buffet style dining.
Their online menus have "stations" now instead of regular food items. Not sure what this will do for allergies. Disney definitely takes care of those with food allergies but this seems like it will add an extra step of inconvenience to the ordering process.
App user Deborah sent in a review for the character breakfast at the Garden Grill at The Land pavilion in EPCOT-
Character breakfast at Garden Grill. Loved this! You pay a set amount $32.99 per adult I think and the food comes to your table family style (big platter arrives i.e. You don't order individually from a menu they bring some of everything). The GF here was fantastic because we didn't feel we were missing out.
We were a table of 4, 2 regular 2 GF. The regular eaters received a warm cinnamon sticky tear and share bun, GF received two warm blueberry muffins each and then the table gets a big fruit salad platter; the muffins eaten with strawberries were really good. Then your drinks order comes, there's juices soda tea and coffee. My girls had the orange guava fruit blend and loved it.
Then the main course breakfast arrives. I almost don't want to tell you and spoil it for you because what you get is so similar to the regular platter it's a lovely surprise! You get a gluten free basket of bacon sausages scrambled eggs tomato salsa mickey waffles and mini potato barrel hash browns, a sauce boat of maple sauce alongside. It's a lot of food. Our regular eating family got what looked just about identical. The also bring chocolate hazelnut sauce for the Mickey waffles but we asked them not to bring that our as one of our party has a nut allergy. The GF platter had allergy sticks in it to denote which was ours, but the server took care to point out our basket and leave it at our side of the table. That's more than I would ever pay for or eat at breakfast but it was great to feel so much a part of things worth such similar food as the rest of the table and 4 Disney characters came to visit while we ate. My daughter loved the juice blend served in a jam jar but didn't like the Mickey waffles (savoury not sweet and doesn't like maple Syrup) she mostly ate bacon and eggs plus the muffins and fruit. I ate Too much of everything and still there was lots left-could have fed another three people! Recommend going on a vey gentle ride afterwards, this restaurant is right next to Living with the land as a digestif! ... See MoreSee Less

I didn't love Peco Bills but we were hungry and shady inside tables helped us cool down after riding Big Thunder (it's also right by Pirates and Splash). We ate lunch here at 11.30 to beat the main noon crowd, it was still busy. The CM here was super helpful and let me take a menu out of the line to study and tables are refreshed/kept clean by some very hardworking staff. The only thing on the menu that appealed were the rice bowls, the CM said that they were the popular allergy choice and he offered to get a manager out to chat to me about what they could do before I got in line, which I thought was a super offer for a QS. I ordered 2 rice bowls, you could pick beef chicken or mixed vegetable. When I got to the till the CM there called them chicken beef or standard. Our chicken rice bowls were actually a plastic plate with a very small portion of rice, the cook in the bag kind, a lot of black beans and some peppery fast fried chicken pieces. It fed us but I thought the kind attention to service was better than the food. ... See MoreSee Less

Best burger I've had anywhere! Its very busy in line at this not-so-quick service and you don't get to see what the allergy menu is until you get to the till point. So when I did get to the front of the line I quickly ordered a kids gluten free burger, no cheese, for me $4.99 it came with a choice of drink and 2 of either fries apple slices or carrot slices. I ordered the GF Steak for my daughter as she's eaten enough fast food this week! Hers was $17.99. When the food came out (25 mins brought by manager on an orange tray) hers was a huge medium cooked steak served with fries and spiced corn. My burger, predictably had a slice of cheese, but that was once removed mine was the best meal I've had at Disney, including at more expensive table service places. Plus the kids one I ordered was the same size as the adult burger. The tasty meat patty was on a bun so soft I worried in case it was not gluten free! I haven't got sick so all was in order. It had a slice of tomato and a piece of lettuce on it and server confirmed fries that are cooked in a separate fryer. There's no photo because. Was really hungry and I'd eaten it before I remembered to take one. Other menu items were rotisserie chicken, lemon pepper salmon and an Asian salad. Some substitutions are made, for example broccoli advertised came as green beans. Desserts for GF on the menu were a cookie and a brownie but I didn't see anyone order those. What I learned here was a GF burger can taste amazing and that I've been wasting $ ordering adult instead of kids burgers at other quick service places. ... See MoreSee Less

I had the GF Angus burger, which stated it came just with lettuce tomato on a bun. It came out with the allergy stick in it but also had added onions and a slice of melted cheese, which was fine but unexpected. The bun was dry today and I was glad of the onions and some ketchup to soften it. I did not get sick which was the main thing. I loved the styling and cool quiet of the Sci-fi diner but the food was just ok. My daughter on the other hand loves their GF pasta, which is currently four cheese and red bell pepper and she can be a picky eater, she did not get sick either. We did take the precaution of asking for no Parmesan: if it was block cheese grated that would be fine but in the UK we have got sick before with and I understand if it's powdered catering Parmesan some places it can have a wheat based separator in it so we no longer eat parmasan in restaurants anywhere! ... I ate here today with my family. This was the best gluten free pizza I've ever had!! I could choose whatever toppings I wanted. The service was great and our pizzas came out fast. The staff changed their gloves when they handled my pizza, but one possible cross contamination is that they use the same spoon to spread the sauce on all pizzas. ... See MoreSee Less

Really enjoyed eating here, today and also one year ago. Today we had gluten free hot dog on a duff white Udis rolll, gluten free chicken nuggets maybe 7 pieces and two sides of allergy friendly fries. Other GF choices included chicken sandwich and a brownie. I did not check about condiments as I personally am ok with those but you should ask. Very friendly staff here. GF Arrived reassuringly later than regular food but they did bring all the food out at the same time and it all came on an orange tray from a manager. They did bear with me whilst I quizzed them that it was definitely gluten free. On this occasion it came with verbal reassurance but did not have the allergy friendly stick in it. Inside or outside tables, we sat in the aircon today. ... See MoreSee Less

I had the Carne Asada tampiquena for lunch and it was very good. For desert I had the crema Bavaria, which while good, I think I would opt for a different desert from somewhere else in the park. The menu told me what was gluten free. We had queso as an appetizer and the waitress brought out corn tortillas for me since the chips were fried in the same oil as everything else. However, upon closer inspection one of the containers of tortillas were flour and not corn. I'm glad I realized it before I ate them. Our waitress was nice and the service was good ...
